Vulnerable People Housing Service (VPHS)

SHIP (Supported Housing to Independence Pathway) and the SRP (Single Referral Pathway)

The SRP (Single Referral Pathway) is a partnership between providers of supported housing in Sandwell and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. The SRP has been working for the benefit of vulnerable people in housing need since 2006.

The SRP aims to provide a straightforward route for access to supported housing in Sandwell for young people in housing need.

The SRP partners provide a range of supported housing for single people and young families with children.

Supported Housing is now only available for 18+ applicants with a local connection to Sandwell with identified support & accommodation needs.

Supported Lodgings provision is only available for applicants aged 16 & 17 years.

Applications for supported housing in Sandwell can only be made via approved trusted referrers, these are:

  • Housing (Housing Choice & VPHS)
  • Sandwell Probation
  • Targeted Youth Support (Leaving Care Team & Youth Offending Team)
  • Children’s Services (Including Early Help & Looked After Children)
  • Health (Adult Social Care, Black Country Partnership, IRIS & Swanswell)

Approved referral forms are checked and nominated to participating supported housing schemes through a secure internet based referral system known as SHIP (Supported Housing Independence Pathway). Schemes will then complete assessments and accommodate where appropriate.

Accommodation is provided directly by supported housing providers and is subject to availability and the outcome of an assessment of housing needs and risks.
